Earlier this year, I had a nasty surfing injury with multiple fractures to my forehead, concussion then post concussion syndrome. Going to Bikram yoga has helped me to start regaining focus, concentration, determination, belief in myself and faith my body’s ability to heal.
I also had my ACL reconstructed last year and was still having knee pain as well as a very stiff, sore neck from the head injury. Some of the postures were very difficult for me in the beginning. It takes working through them slowly, having patience with myself, becoming more aware of my body and the “limitations” that my mind puts on it. I am amazed at how quickly my overall strength and flexibility have increased.
After 9 months out for recovery, I took on the 30 Day Challenge, thinking I would just see what I could do. It is certainly hard work but I made it! I am now free of knee pain and have far greater range of motion in my neck. This allows me so much more freedom to return to the outdoor sports that I love.
I decided that the best thing to do, is trust that the instructions are very precisely giving instructions and if followed carefully I would truly receive 100% benefit.
I’ve found Bikram yoga to be one of the most challenging physical and mental activities I have done. It is also one of the most rewarding to me for body, mind and soul.
Thanks Peggy and all the wonderful instructors at Bikram Yoga Queenstown.
